The question of gay marriage is on everyone’s mind the last few days. It has something to do with a supreme court case. Anyway, depending on the outcome the way could be paved to allow states or maybe more appropriately stated, to forbid states from not allowing gays to get married. The reasons for allowing this is simple, it is a measure of equality and liberty and freedom. I get it. I am not against it. Those that are have no real argument except a biblical one. But there really isn’t a statement in the bible forbidding this. Well there might be, but first you have to allow yourself to accept that the bible wasn’t mutated overtime. There is little proof in my mind that biblical writings are anything but allegory and completely made up, and based on very little fact. This is not to discount them but to say that they are for depicting morality and not factual depiction of history. Mostly because of the changeable ability of printed text. It was brought up today that the laws of the US are based on the bible. I would say that those are then based on previous laws. The argument was that these biblical laws are the origin but this simply isn’t so. Hammurabi’s code was around centuries before Moses allegedly went up the mountain. And Hammurabi’s code still survives today as a stone stele. There is no record of Moses’s stone slabs. They could really be as fictional as Joseph Smith’s golden plates. What legitimate argument is there against gay marriage but laws established, quite easily, thousands of years ago. And how much footing does that argument really have. I would bet that even the ancients would agree that the world would not stop spinning if this were to happen.
